The IgnoramUS
by Anwaar Hussain Most Americans don’t know that back in November 1999 when George W Bush, the then Republican frontrunner in the United States presidential elections, was subjected to a little foreign policy quiz by a Boston TV, he did not know the names of two leaders, among others, who represented about one-fifth of humanity…the leaders of Pakistan and India. Most Americans don’t know that such was the state of the awareness of a man about to be handed over the reins of the most awesome military machine of the most powerful country on planet earth and let loose upon the world. Most Americans don’t know that their country’s foreign policy has been held hostage to the wellbeing of the state of Israel for the past about four decades and all the world’s major crisis, including the so called ‘war on Terror’, can be traced, one way or the other, to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and America’s extremely partisan Israel-centric role in that. Most Americans don’t know that a large section of American diplomatic and military experts have long held the view that U.S. support of Israel is often contrary to and, in fact, enormously damaging to U.S. interests. Most Americans don’t know that this blind allegiance to the tiny state of Israel, apart from increasingly endangering American lives, hurts America’s relations with 1.2 billion Muslims world-wide and bleeds off the much-needed resources from domestic American requirements to fight a shadow ‘war on terror’ that is contrary to American principles of equality, democracy and fairplay. Most Americans, in fact, don’t know the ABCs of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Consider the following. Most Americans don’t know that for 2,000 years there was no such conflict and that the land of Palestine was inhabited by Palestinian Arabs and that in 1850 these consisted of approximately 80 percent Muslims, 15 percent Christians, and only 5 percent Jews and for centuries these groups had lived in absolute accord. Most Americans don’t know that in the late 1800s a fanatic minority group of the world Jewish population in Europe, known as the “Zionists”, decided to colonize this land to create a Jewish homeland, and at first considered locations in Africa and South America, before finally settling their sights on Palestine for their colony. Most Americans don’t know that at first this immigration created no problems but when the extremist group’s designs for an exclusive Jewish state started surfacing, fighting between the two groups broke out with swelling waves of violence. Most Americans don’t know that when finally in 1947 the United Nations did decide to intervene, under considerable pressure from high-placed American Zionists, the UN randomly divided up Palestine rather than adhering to the democratic principle of "self-determination of peoples" and ended up giving away 55 percent of Palestine to a Jewish state — despite the fact that this group by then represented only about 30 percent of the total population, and owned under 7 percent of the land. Most Americans don’t know that when the inevitable Arab-Israeli war of 1948 broke out, the Zionist army consisted of over 90,000 European-trained soldiers and possessed modern weaponry, including up-to-date fighter and bomber airplanes while the Arab forces, very much a third-world army, consisted of approximately 30,000 ill-equipped, poorly trained men, leaving the outcome to little doubt. Most Americans don’t know that by the end of that war the Jewish state, having now declared itself "Israel", had conquered 78 percent of Palestine — far more than that proposed even by the very generous UN partition plan— and three-quarters of a million Palestinians had been made refugees and over 400 towns and villages had been destroyed and a new map was being drawn up, in which every city, river and hillock would receive a new, Hebrew name and, according to that plan, all traces of the Palestinian culture were to be erased and in fact, for many decades Israel — and the US, following its lead — denied the very existence of this population and Golda Meir once even proclaimed that: "There is no such thing as a Palestinian." Most Americans don’t know that in 1967 in the Six Day War, Israel conquered still more land and occupied the additional 22 percent of Palestine that had eluded it in 1948 — the West Bank and the Gaza Strip — and that it also occupied parts of Egypt (which since were returned) and Syria (which remain under occupation). Most Americans don’t know that currently out of the two core issues in this continuing and growing Middle Eastern conflict, the first one is of the inescapably detrimental effect of trying to maintain an ethnically preferential state, by the Zionist group of colonial origin, in a land that once comprised of 95 percent Muslim and Christian peoples and who are not being allowed to return to their homes in the current "Jewish state" to the extent that the Israeli peace negotiators refuse to even discuss the possibility of applying this UN guaranteed right. Most Americans don’t know that the second core issue is of Israel ‘s continued confiscation of Palestinian land in the West Bank and Gaza, and the resistance to that by the Palestinian inhabitants, and that it is these occupied territories that, according to the Oslo peace accords of 1993, were going to become a Palestinian state and that when Israel continued to take land in these areas and to move its citizens onto it, the Palestinian population rebelled and that uprising is called the "Intifada" (Arabic for "shaking off") which began at the end of September 2000 and continues to this day. Most Americans don’t know that since the start of Intifada, 121 Israeli children have been killed by Palestinians and 786 Palestinian children have been killed by Israelis and 1,084 Israelis and 4,171 Palestinians have been killed, 7,633 Israelis and 30,670 Palestinians have been injured and that zero Israeli homes have been demolished by Palestinians and 4,170 Palestinian homes have been demolished by Israel. Most Americans don’t know that the U.S. gives $15,139,178 per day to the Israeli government and military and $232,290 per day to Palestinian NGO’s and that the Israeli unemployment rate is 8.9%, while the Palestinian unemployment is estimated at 25-31%. Most Americans don’t know that just one Israeli is being held prisoner by Palestinians, while 9,599 Palestinians are currently imprisoned by Israel and that 60+ new Jewish-only settlements have been built on confiscated Palestinian land between March 2001 and July 11, 2003 and that there have been zero cases of Palestinians confiscating Israeli land and building settlements. Most Americans don’t know that not all the world Jewry supports the noxious policies of the Zionist group running the state of Israel and in fact as recently as September 21, a group of Anti-Zionist Orthodox Jewish Rabbis met with President Ahmadinejad of Iran to discuss matters of mutual interest. Above all, most Americans don’t know that Israel has had 65 UN resolutions passed against it in its atrocious past and the Palestinians have none. Now if most Americans do not know what most Americans must know, should most of the world now call the US as the IgnoramUS?Acknowledgement : I am deeply indebted to the administration of the website ‘If Americans Knew’ at www.ifamericansknew.org/index.html upon whose research I have drawn heavily and who have made it a goal to “to inform and educate the American public on issues of major significance that are unreported, underreported, or misreported in the American media” and who want to let it be known that “Americans, through our blank check to Israel, are empowering the worst elements of Israeli society, and undermining those working for a just, peaceful, and nondiscriminatory nation.
We are driving the violence in this region.
We can stop it.”
Hats off to the truth seekers.Copyrights : Anwaar HussainSources: www.ifamericansknew.org/news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/506298.stmwww.nkusa.org/index.cfm

Good to hear from you, Anwaar.
To me it now seems a waste of time to tell any American what they should know.
The US democracy, it is believed, has become a fully-fledged dictatorship.
We cannot help those who for years were disinterested in helping themselves, rarely care to vote, wave the flag, rah-rah-rah, mess up one country after another.

Declaring itself "Israel" was a brilliant move. Fundamentalist Christians believe that they need to save and protect Israel because it says so in the Bible. "Israel" actually means "the spiritual world, the Kingdom of the Creator." Biblical Israel is not a strip of land or a place on the map or the current State of Israel. This misunderstanding fools the people who do not have "eyes to see and ears to hear." It is a reflection of spiritual immaturity and ignorance.

The problem with information dissemination in this ( U.S. ) country is pretty simple. As I’ve said before, Americans are enslaved by same forces that enslave the rest of the world. Unfortunately, that’s another thing Americans don’t know that they need to.
However, this situation is changing radically. It’s been a long time coming, but this country is finally waking up. No one in the rest of the world can see it yet of course, because ( like anything else of value ) there is no real mainstream coverage of it.
Several ( multiple in fact ) simultaneous events are occurring that are simply devastating to the delusion we have been living under for so very long. There’s no way to stem the flow of information at this point since so many people ( globally ) are self-aware, and daily new holes are being torn in the hypocrisy.
In fact my friend, I’ll take your lead and write something about it today…

A good article, Anwaar, which brings much to light. You don't have to tell me any of this because I have been tracking it for some time now.
There is one thing that the article fails to mention, however, and that is: Contrary to the administration's statement [of the website "If Americans Knew’] that they have made it a goal to “to inform and educate the American public on issues of major significance that are unreported, underreported, or misreported in the American media”,most Americans would be unable to grasp the significance of this information even if it were part of their standard reading. It is too simplistic to think that Americans' lack of knowledge is solely related to censorship of information, their lack of attention to world affairs, or their lack of moral fiber/obligation.
I am sorry, but to get my point across, I must be lengthy in my explanation. I have been collecting information on the following for a long time also; it needs to be told and understood by those who are critical of US citizens and the citizens themselves. The mass of people have their thoughts supplied to them. How can you be aware when in your entire life you have never had a thought? In addition, parents must make it their life-long goal to prevent this from happening to their children now and in the future.
America is not in a moral crisis. America is in an Intelligence crisis. Over 50 percent of American's have an IQ between 90 and 110. This allows them to eat, sleep, labor and breed but not much more. It is an impossibility for most American's to understand even the simplest of abstract concepts or to follow the simplest of instructions. Logic, analytical and quantum reasoning are completely out of the question. Most American's are functionally illiterate. THIS IS NOT THEIR FAULT!
Something strange has been going on in government schools, especially where the matter of reading is concerned. Abundant data exist to show that by 1840 the incidence of complex literacy in the United States was between 93 and 100 percent, wherever such a thing mattered. Yet compulsory schooling existed nowhere. Between the two world wars, schoolmen seem to have been assigned the task of terminating our universal reading proficiency.
Old-fashioned dumbness used to be simple ignorance; now it is transformed from ignorance into permanent mathematical categories of relative stupidity like "gifted and talented," "mainstream," "special ed." Categories in which learning is rationed for the good of a system of order. Dumb people are no longer merely ignorant. Now they are indoctrinated, their minds conditioned with substantial doses of commercially prepared disinformation dispensed for tranquilizing purposes.
According to an article by John Taylor Gatto published in the Las Vegas Review-Journal on June 13, 1993 under the title "The Public School Nightmare," the American state education system [infact, all "compulsory education" systems of other countries also] was copied from the Prussian 19th century system with the objective to produce: "1) Obedient soldiers to the army; 2) Obedient workers to the mines; 3) Well subordinated civil servants to government; 4) Well subordinated clerks to industry; 5) Citizens who thought alike about major issues.
You need to know this because over the first 50 years of our school institution Prussian purpose - which was to create a form of state socialism - gradually forced out traditional American purpose, which in most minds was to prepare the individual to be self-reliant. ...Well-schooled children cannot think critically, cannot argue effectively.
In the first decades of the twentieth century, a small group of soon-to-be-famous academics, symbolically led by John Dewey and Edward Thorndike of Columbia Teachers College, Ellwood P. Cubberley of Stanford, G. Stanley Hall of Clark, and an ambitious handful of others, energized and financed by major corporate and financial allies like Morgan, Astor, Whitney, Carnegie, and Rockefeller, decided to bend government schooling to the service of business and the political state—as it had been done a century before in Prussia.
Looking back, abundant data exist from states like Connecticut and Massachusetts to show that by 1840 the incidence of complex literacy in the United States was between 93 and 100 percent wherever such a thing mattered. According to the Connecticut census of 1840, only one citizen out of every 579 was illiterate and you probably don’t want to know, not really, what people in those days considered literate; it’s too embarrassing. Popular novels of the period give a clue: Last of the Mohicans, published in 1826, sold so well that a contemporary equivalent would have to move 10 million copies to match it. If you pick up an uncut version you find yourself in a dense thicket of philosophy, history, culture, manners, politics, geography, analysis of human motives and actions, all conveyed in data-rich periodic sentences so formidable only a determined and well-educated reader can handle it nowadays. Yet in 1818 we were a small-farm nation without colleges or universities to speak of. Could those simple folk have had more complex minds than our own? In 1882, fifth graders read these authors in their Appleton School Reader: William Shakespeare, Henry Thoreau, George Washington, Sir Walter Scott, Mark Twain, Benjamin Franklin, Oliver Wendell Holmes, John Bunyan, Daniel Webster, Samuel Johnson, Lewis Carroll, Thomas Jefferson, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and others like them. In 1995, a student teacher of fifth graders in Minneapolis wrote to the local newspaper, "I was told children are not to be expected to spell the following words correctly: back, big, call, came, can, day, did, dog, down, get, good, have, he, home, if, in, is, it, like, little, man, morning, mother, my, night, off, out, over, people, play, ran, said, saw, she, some, soon, their, them, there, time, two, too, up, us, very, water, we, went, where, when, will, would, etc. Is this nuts?" At the start of WWII millions of men showed up at registration offices to take low-level academic tests before being inducted. The years of maximum mobilization were 1942 to1944; the fighting force had been mostly schooled in the 1930s, both those inducted and those turned away. Of the 18 million men were tested, 17,280,000 of them were judged to have the minimum competence in reading required to be a soldier, a 96 percent literacy rate. Although this was a 2 percent fall-off from the 98 percent rate among voluntary military applicants ten years earlier, the dip was so small it didn’t worry anybody. WWII was over in 1945. Six years later another war began in Korea. Several million men were tested for military service but this time 600,000 were rejected. Literacy in the draft pool had dropped to 81 percent, even though all that was needed to classify a soldier as literate was fourth- grade reading proficiency. In the few short years from the beginning of WWII to Korea, a terrifying problem of adult illiteracy had appeared. The Korean War group received most of its schooling in the 1940s, and it had more years in school with more professionally trained personnel and more scientifically selected textbooks than the WWII men, yet it could not read, write, count, speak, or think as well as the earlier, less-schooled contingent. A third American war began in the mid-1960s. By its end in 1973 the number of men found noninductible by reason of inability to read safety instructions, interpret road signs, decipher orders, and so on—in other words, the number found illiterate—had reached 27 percent of the total pool. Vietnam-era young men had been schooled in the 1950s and the 1960s—much better schooled than either of the two earlier groups—but the 4 percent illiteracy of 1941 which had transmuted into the 19 percent illiteracy of 1952 had now had grown into the 27 percent illiteracy of 1970. Not only had the fraction of competent readers dropped to 73 percent but a substantial chunk of even those were only barely adequate; they could not keep abreast of developments by reading a newspaper, they could not read for pleasure, they could not sustain a thought or an argument, they could not write well enough to manage their own affairs without assistance.
Consider how much more compelling this steady progression of intellectual blindness is when we track it through army admissions tests rather than college admissions scores and standardized reading tests, which inflate apparent proficiency by frequently changing the way the tests are scored.
Between 1967 and 1974, teacher training in the United States was covertly revamped through coordinated efforts of a small number of private foundations, select universities, global corporations, think tanks, and government agencies, all coordinated through the U.S. Office of Education and through key state education departments like those in California, Texas, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New York. Important milestones of the transformation were: 1) an extensive government exercise in futurology called Designing Education for the Future, 2) the Behavioral Science Teacher Education Project, and 3) Benjamin Bloom’s multivolume Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, an enormous manual of over a thousand pages which, in time, impacted every school in America. While other documents exist, these three are appropriate touchstones of the whole, serving to make clear the nature of the project underway. Take them one by one and savor each. Designing Education, produced by the Education Department, redefined the term "education" after the Prussian fashion as "a means to achieve important economic and social goals of a national character." State education agencies would henceforth act as on-site federal enforcers, ensuring the compliance of local schools with central directives. Each state education department was assigned the task of becoming "an agent of change" and advised to "lose its independent identity as well as its authority," in order to "form a partnership with the federal government." The second document, the gigantic Behavioral Science Teacher Education Project, outlined teaching reforms to be forced on the country after 1967. If you ever want to hunt this thing down, it bears the U.S. Office of Education Contract Number OEC-0-9-320424-4042 (B10). The document sets out clearly the intentions of its creators—nothing less than "impersonal manipulation" through schooling of a future America in which "few will be able to maintain control over their opinions," an America in which "each individual receives at birth a multi-purpose identification number" which enables employers and other controllers to keep track of underlings and to expose them to direct or subliminal influence when necessary. Readers learned that "chemical experimentation" on minors would be normal procedure in this post-1967 world, a pointed foreshadowing of the massive Ritalin interventions which now accompany the practice of forced schooling. The Behavioral Science Teacher Education Project identified the future as one "in which a small elite" will control all important matters, one where participatory democracy will largely disappear. Children are made to see, through school experiences, that their classmates are so cruel and irresponsible, so inadequate to the task of self-discipline, and so ignorant they need to be controlled and regulated for society’s good. Under such a logical regime, school terror can only be regarded as good advertising. It is sobering to think of mass schooling as a vast demonstration project of human inadequacy, but that is at least one of its functions. Post-modern schooling, we are told, is to focus on "pleasure cultivation" and on "other attitudes and skills compatible with a non-work world." Thus the socialization classroom of the century’s beginning—itself a radical departure from schooling for mental and character development—can be seen to have evolved by 1967 into a full-scale laboratory for psychological experimentation.
The secret of American schooling is that it doesn’t teach the way children learn, and it isn’t supposed to; school was engineered to serve a concealed command economy and a deliberately re-stratified social order.
While these developments have had a markedly adverse effect on people, and on our democratic traditions, it has made schooling the single largest employer in the United States, and the largest grantor of contracts, next to the Defense Department. Both of these low-visibility phenomena provide monopoly schooling with powerful political friends, publicists, advocates and other useful allies. This is a large part of the explanation why no amount of failure ever changes things in schools. School people are in a position to outlast any storm and to keep short-attention-span public scrutiny thoroughly confused.
We live together, you and I, in a dark time when all official history/information is propaganda. If you want truth, you have to struggle for it.

I want to thank you both for the great job you are doing in educating people,at least trying to.If you get the job done, even in a small scale, that would be something else. But, at this point in time, I know that ignorance is not just an American plague, but world wide. It surprises me?No,I have known for too long, that this as been the goal of all governments. If you keep people ignorant you have less problems. So, I do have to thank you both for your efforts in trying,.But to say the Truth,I really don't know, if people are even, able to understands so intricate explanations, that you both are so good in giving. But I keep my fingers crossed, wishing that you do get through.Good luck ,you do need it.Is

Anwaar: Once again, brilliant writing.... but a couple of points more...... and perhaps you can expound and expand on the following refrain......... Americans don't care because they are told not to care. 1. Most Americans don't care because they have been indoctrinated to not care about any other concerns in the Middleast other than Israeli concerns. 2. Americans don't care about Arab concerns because they are told not to care that their foreign policy is written in Tel Aviv, even when it runs counter to US interests. 3. Americans don't care that all US foreign policy issues ANYWHERE in the world must be viewed first and foremost by asking the question: "How does this affect Israel?" 4. Americans don't care that Bush seeks to carry out his biblical promise to give Israel all the land from the Nile to the Eurphrates. 5. Americans don't care that billions of their tax dollars have been used to move the "lost tribes of Israel" from Somalia and northern India........... home to Israel. 6. Americans don't care that Israel must steal more land from Arabs in order to accomodate the influx of Jewish immigrants from anywhere in the world to Israel and that the US pays for this .....under the concept "law of return." 7. Americans don't care that millions of Christians and Muslim people are killed in the Dafur region of the Sudan...... until it is necessary to evacuate to Israel a handful of jews there; and to lay the groundwork for Israeli claims for oil reparations against Sudan for losing these lands. 8. Americans don't care that Israel has violated US law by selling US developed missile and nuclear warhead technology that it has been given........ to China so that Chinese nuclear warheads can be aimed right back at the US. 9. Americans don't care if Israel commits war crimes, atrocities against Arab and Muslim civilians, breaches all UN resolutions and mandates, breaches international law by not declaring its own nuclear arsenal (paid for and developed by the US). America preaches a nuclear-free middleast but arms Israel with over 200 nukes and 3 nuclear submarines. 10. Americans don't care that simply stated US foreign policy is: Muslims can do nothing right in the middleast........ but Muslims can do nothing wrong in the Balkans or Chechnya. (Americans call that "balanced foreign policy." 11. Americans don't want to know............many things....... and don't really care until they are told to care by their jewish comtrolled media and government. Suggestion to Arabs, Muslims, and Christians in the Middleast: Get the attention of American ears by using the Jewish lexicon back to them, repeating it over and over and over: "Israel is an apartheid state." "Israel is not a democracy, it practices apartheid." "Israel practices exclusionary policies in order to maintain its racial "purity" just like Hitler and the Nazi regime tried to maintain Aryan purity and presumed superiority." "Israel prepares to inflict a nuclear holocaust against the Arab world with American made nukes." "Meanwhile, many Israelis don't fear but actually pray and look forward to a nuclear war and holocaust to fulfill their own religious prophecy of the coming of their messiah. Yet this is what the US acuses the current leader of Iran of wanting and predicting." "Israel has the forth largest nuclear and biological arsenal in the world..... far more than what is needed for their regional defense. What are they planning?" "Israel refuses to pay reparations for property stolen from Palestinians or for property destroed by illegal bombin campaigns." "Israel refuses to pay for reparations for killing Palestinian children." "The only reason Israel was established was because US President Harry Truman's business partner in a Kansas City clothing store was jewish. Truman was initially against stealing Arab land and giving it to the jews. So Truman stole Palestinian lands in order to set up a jewish buyout of his portion of the clothing store business. This was Truman's golden parachute retirement package." just a few thoughts. Doug

You are right, most Americans don't know politics, geography nor history. I am not sure if this happened by design of their school curriculae or due to the fact that they have been in a state of isolation from the world until about 60 years ago, until after WWII, which is not much time to change a nation's way of thinking.
This is a fact, but what do we do about it? Do we insult them Americans or try to educate them and show them the other side of the issues and lead them to conclude that they are being manipulated to support the wrong side? The Americans are very nice people and you can say idealistic or naive at times, unfortunately, they are being taken advantage of by presenting the issues to them in such a way to get them to side with the wrong policies.
By the way, there are many America's within America. You have Corporate America, which is closely tied with the politicians and the government. Most people are totally ignorant of what is going on in their own state let alone the country, let alone the rest of the world. Each segment of the people lives in his own world, whether the individual is a farmer, a blue collar worker, a white collar, an entertainer, into sport or what have you. Everybody has his own little world and doesn't care about what's going on with anybody else. By the way, those Americans that lived overseas have a much better understanding of the issues because they saw for themselves what's going on, but the rest of them are busy with their own life and really would care less about anything that does not affect their lives or needs.
We should reach out to the American people instead of insulting them and pointing out their shortcomings. Every group of people in the world has shortcomings, nobody is perfect, however, we msut strive to fix our shortcomings before pointing out the shortcomings of others. And by the way, the policy of the United States in the Middle East wouldn't have been what it is if it wasn't for the shortcomings of the people of the Middle East and their puppet governments, think about it!!!!
Salam....

Anwaar Hussain, 10 octobre 2006

[9] « There is no such thing as a Palestinian.

A Hate Mail
Thank you all for commenting.
Here is a hate mail that I got today. I get many but this one takes the cake.
""Most Americans don't know that since the start of the Intifada, 121 Israeli children have been killed by Palestinians and 786 Palestinian children have been killed by Israelis and 1,084 Israelis and 4,171 Palestinians have been killed, 7,633 Israelis and 30,670 Palestinians have been injured; and that zero Israeli homes have been demolished by Palestinians and 4,170 Palestinian homes have been demolished by Israel."
you are incorrect. it's not that we don't know, we don't care. most americans hate muslims and arabs for all of the terrorism and death they have caused. i for one love hearing about their deaths. you also treat women like dogs. the land of israel belongs to the hebrews, as promised to them by their god, the ONE TRUE GOD, not some moon-idol."

Thankyou for the incisive writing here .
Surely the Crusades were a disruption to Palestinian self-determination by the same lot with a similar attitude ? There was also a time of Persian domination for a while . The dispute between Muslims , Christians and Jews over Jerusalem is ancient , and it's easily exploited in the dispute over oil . The Brits laid the first (4")pipeline in Iran in 1912 , having spent some few hundred years acquiring trading priveledges . Nothing's materially different today except the intensity of activity . No doubt the bubble will soon burst .
Thanks again
keep writing
Peace to all
